2 Stop sewing ¼˝ away from the first corner, and backstitch 1 stitch. FIG. B

3 Lift the presser foot and needle, and remove the quilt from under the sewing machine. Rotate the quilt a quarter turn. Fold the binding at a right angle so it extends straight above the quilt and the fold forms a 45° angle in the corner. FIG. C

4 Bring down the binding strip so it’s even with the edge of the quilt. Begin sewing at the folded edge. FIG. D

5. Repeat Steps 2–4, stopping about 10˝–15˝ from where the binding begins. Place the end of the binding along the remaining edge of the quilt so that the binding ends overlap. Trim and shorten the bottom end of the binding so that it sits roughly in the middle of the unstitched section. Trim the top end of the binding so that it overlaps the bottom binding by 2¼˝ (or the cut width of the binding). FIG. E
